About the Author

Mary Kurtz and her husband, Peter, raise cattle, hay, and quarter horses in northwestern Colorado on their ranch outside Steamboat Springs, Colorado. She finds inspiration for her writing in their daily ranch living and in the beautiful landscape of the Elk River Valley. Mary has contributed to Farm and Ranch Living, the Trail and Rider Magazine, Country Woman and Cats and Kittens.

She is a member of the Steamboat Writer’s Group, Women Writing the West, the Routt County Cattlewomen, Yampa River Botanic Gardens, the Routt County Humane Society, and the American Quarter Horse Association. Mary has taught special education, practiced psychotherapy, and volunteered for a variety of youth organizations including her county 4-H program. Mary enjoys gardening, running, snowshoeing, riding, and photography. She and her husband are the parents of two adult children.
